St Benedict

Saint Benedict, born around 480 in Norcia, fled Rome’s vice-filled student life for solitude in Subiaco, where he lived as a hermit. His holiness attracted followers, leading to the founding of multiple monasteries and the creation of the Rule of Saint Benedict, emphasizing communal living, prayer, and sacred reading. His teachings harnessed rhetoric for spiritual growth and stressed the importance of God’s Word. Benedict’s influence endures through monastic traditions and his Rule. He is the patron saint of Europe and students, and his feast day is on July 11.
