A Mission Born from a Question

Every mission begins with a question. For Catechetical Literacy Catholic Faith Forum (CLIFF), it was this: How can the timeless truths of the Catholic faith be communicated meaningfully to a generation shaped by the digital world? Around 2016, our founder, Austin Franklin Ezejimofor, began reflecting on this while studying Pastoral Communication. The question became more urgent during a fieldwork seminar led by Rt. Rev. Dr. Gerald Musa (now Bishop of Katsina Diocese), which examined how catechists transmitted the faith to young people. It became clear that while the Gospel never changes, every generation requires approaches that speak meaningfully to its culture. The question was no longer whether the Church should engage the digital generation differently, but how.

Seeing Opportunity Where Others Saw Challenges

As this reflection deepened, another important realization emerged: young people possess extraordinary gifts of imagination and creativity. Through social media, music, art, technology, storytelling, and other forms of contemporary culture, they communicate with remarkable influence. While these gifts are often used for entertainment and social interaction, they also hold immense potential for evangelization. Catechetical Literacy was born from the conviction that these talents are not merely tools of communication but channels of grace through which Christ can be proclaimed. We believe that every God-given talent can become an instrument for building God\\\'s Kingdom and serving the mission of the Church.

Inspired by the Vision of Pope Benedict XVI

While seeking practical ways to realize this vision, the founder encountered YOUCAT (Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church) in 2018. More than the Catechism itself, he was inspired by Pope Benedict XVI\\\'s invitation to young people to study the faith passionately, form study groups, discuss it with friends, and share it through the internet. Viewing this appeal through the lens of media and information literacy gave birth to the name Catechetical Literacy. It expresses the Church\\\'s mission of handing on the faith while promoting critical reflection, creative communication, and responsible sharing of the Gospel in today\\\'s digital world.

From Knowing the Faith to Living the Faith

The vision of Catechetical Literacy was further enriched through DOCAT and the inspiring appeal of Pope Francis. While YOUCAT helps young people answer the question,\"What does the Church believe?\", DOCAT challenges them to ask,\"What should we do?\" Pope Francis urged young Christians not only to understand the Church\'s social teaching but also to live it by promoting justice, charity, human dignity, and the common good. It became clear that the visions of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis are complementary—one calls us to know the faith, the other to live the faith. The Birth of a Learning Community

On 5 August 2018, the Catechetical Literacy WhatsApp Study Group was officially launched with a vision to make faith formation more engaging and participatory. Unlike a traditional classroom, it was designed as a community of meaningful dialogue, where members learn from one another through storytelling, contemporary issues, Sacred Scripture, Church teaching, YOUCAT, DOCAT, and shared life experiences. This fresh approach resonated especially with young adults, who found it both relevant and engaging in today\'s digital culture. Rather than remaining passive listeners, participants became active contributors, enriching one another\'s journey of faith.

Discovering Hidden Gifts

One of the most beautiful fruits of the forum was the discovery that many participants possessed gifts they never imagined could serve the Church. Some initially believed they had little to contribute. However, through weekly discussions and shared reflections, they gradually discovered that years of family life, parish catechesis, Catholic education, personal prayer, and lived experience had already formed them in countless ways. CLIFF simply provided a space where those gifts could be shared. Many members who once joined only to learn eventually became contributors, moderators, presenters, and leaders. For them, Catechetical Literacy became more than an online discussion forum. It became a ministry.

Growing Through Challenges

Like every apostolate, the journey was not without challenges. Preparing meaningful weekly discussions required enormous commitment from the leadership team. Finding volunteers willing to moderate discussions and present topics consistently was often difficult. Participation also presented its own challenge. While membership continued to grow rapidly, many participants preferred simply to observe rather than actively contribute—a common characteristic of online communities. Yet the leadership remained convinced that meaningful dialogue would gradually inspire greater participation, and many silent observers eventually became active contributors.

Continuing the Mission

Today, Catechetical Literacy Catholic Faith Forum continues to bring together Catholics from different parts of the world in a shared journey of faith formation. Inspired by the complementary vision of YOUCAT and DOCAT, we seek to help people discover, understand, live, and share the Catholic faith through meaningful dialogue, reflective learning, and creative evangelization. We remain convinced that faith grows when it is shared, that dialogue deepens understanding, and that every God-given talent can become a channel of grace for building God\\\'s Kingdom and serving the mission of the Church. As we continue this journey, our prayer is to form a generation of Catholics who are firmly rooted in Christ, faithful to His Church, enriched by authentic catechesis, and courageously committed to transforming today\\\'s world with the Gospel.

Christ-Centred Living

Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith and the centre of our mission. Every aspect of our catechetical formation, dialogue, and evangelization is rooted in His life, teachings, death, and resurrection. We strive to know Him more deeply, imitate His example, and proclaim Him faithfully in every sphere of life.

Fidelity to the Catholic Church

We remain firmly committed to the teachings of the Catholic Church, faithfully transmitting the Gospel as preserved in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium. Our discussions and formation are guided by authentic Catholic doctrine, fostering unity with the Church and her mission.

Catechetical Excellence

We believe that every Catholic deserves to understand the faith deeply. Through meaningful dialogue, study, reflection, and faithful instruction, we promote lifelong catechesis that forms both the mind and the heart. Inspired by YOUCAT, we encourage everyone to know what the Church believes.

Faith in Action

Faith is not merely learned—it is lived. Inspired by DOCAT, we strive to put the Gospel into practice through justice, charity, compassion, service, and responsible citizenship. We believe authentic faith transforms individuals, communities, and society.

Meaningful Dialogue

We believe genuine learning grows through respectful listening, thoughtful reflection, and honest conversation. Our forum encourages questions, critical thinking, and charitable dialogue that deepen understanding while always remaining faithful to Catholic teaching. We seek not simply to win arguments but to form disciples.

Creative Evangelization

We recognize that God has blessed every person with unique gifts and talents. Whether through writing, music, art, media, technology, education, or professional service, we encourage members to use their creativity as a channel of grace for proclaiming the Gospel.

Lifelong Learning

Faith formation is a lifelong journey. We cultivate intellectual curiosity, spiritual growth, and continuous learning, encouraging every member to deepen their understanding of Scripture, theology, Catholic tradition, and contemporary issues in the light of the Gospel. Inspired by St. Thomas Aquinas, we embrace the harmony between faith and reason.

Service and Mission

The knowledge of our faith finds its fulfilment in service to others. We are committed to forming missionary disciples who witness to Christ through humble service, compassionate leadership, and joyful evangelization within the Church and the wider society. The Cross

The cross represents Jesus Christ, the centre of our faith, the source of our salvation, and the foundation of our mission. It reminds us that every aspect of our catechetical work is rooted in Christ\\\'s life, death, and resurrection. As His disciples, we are called not only to know Him but also to proclaim His Gospel and bear witness to Him in the world.

The Rock (CLIFF)

The rock (cliff) symbolizes Christ, the Rock of our faith, upon whom the Church is built (cf. Matthew 16:18). It represents strength, stability, and steadfastness in the truth of the Catholic faith. It also reflects our commitment to building lives firmly rooted in Christ and remaining faithful to the teaching authority of His Church. Like a cliff that stands firm against every storm, we strive to remain unwavering in faith while helping others grow in knowledge, conviction, and faithful Christian living.

The Open Books

The open book represents YOUCAT and DOCAT, the principal catechetical resources that guide our formation and discussions. YOUCAT presents the doctrine and faith of the Catholic Church in a way that is accessible and engaging, while DOCAT applies those teachings to social life through the Church\\\'s Social Doctrine. Together, they inspire and shape our mission of catechesis and evangelization, reflecting the vision of Pope Benedict XVI, under whose encouragement YOUCAT was introduced, and Pope Francis, who promoted DOCAT as a call for young people to live the Church\\\'s social teaching.

The Colours

The yellow and blue that run throughout our logo and website are inspired by the official colours of YOUCAT and DOCAT. Yellow represents YOUCAT, signifying the Church\\\'s faith and doctrine, while blue represents DOCAT, symbolizing the Church\\\'s social teaching and our call to live the Gospel in society. Together, these colours express our commitment to both knowing the faith and living the faith.

St. Peter (Our Principal Patron)

Originally called Simon, St. Peter was chosen by Jesus to lead the Apostles and became the first Pope. Christ entrusted him with the keys of the Kingdom and declared, \\\'You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church\' (Mt 16:18). Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, Peter preached the Gospel courageously and died a martyr in Rome. Our forum is firmly rooted in Christ and faithful to His Church. The rock (cliff) in our logo recalls Christ the Rock and the apostolic foundation represented by Peter.

St. Charles Borromeo (Patron of Catechesis and Faith Formation)

Archbishop of Milan and one of the great reformers of the Catholic Reformation, St. Charles renewed catechetical instruction, established seminaries, and promoted sound Catholic education. His dedication to authentic catechesis inspires our commitment to forming faithful Catholics through sound teaching.

St. Thomas Aquinas (Patron of Catholic Learning, Wisdom, and Faith Formation)

Dominican priest and Doctor of the Church, St. Thomas Aquinas devoted his life to studying, teaching, and defending the Catholic faith. His Summa Theologiae remains a masterpiece of Catholic theology. He inspires us to unite faith and reason, fostering thoughtful dialogue, intellectual formation, and a deeper understanding of Catholic doctrine.

St. Carlo Acutis (Patron of Digital Evangelization)

Saint Carlo Acutis used computers and the internet to spread devotion to the Eucharist and proclaim the Gospel, showing that technology can become an instrument of holiness. He inspires us to transform digital media into a channel of grace for evangelization.

Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom (Patroness of CLIFF)

Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom is one of the Church\\\'s oldest titles for the Blessed Virgin Mary. She bore Jesus Christ, the Eternal Word and Wisdom of God, and has long been honoured as the patroness of Catholic learning. She reminds us that true wisdom begins with Christ and inspires us to unite intellectual formation with spiritual growth.

Chuks Cyprian Odega

Presenter & Moderator

Chuks Cyprian Odega is from Delta State, Nigeria, and is happily married. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Master of Science in Epidemiology. He currently serves in the Public Service with the Federal Government of Nigeria, where he contributes to the promotion of public health and national development.

Chuks is passionate about marriage and family life, counselling, and catechesis. He believes that faith formation and sound guidance are essential for building strong families, responsible communities, and committed Christians. As a Presenter and Moderator in the Catechetical Literacy Catholic Faith Forum, he facilitates discussions that encourage deeper reflection on Catholic teaching and practical Christian living.

His philosophy of life is that every person is called by God to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He believes that by sharing knowledge, offering wise counsel, and teaching with love, one fulfils God’s purpose and leaves a lasting impact on society.

Obasogie Gloria

Moderator

Obasogie Gloria is from Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, and is happily married. She has a professional background in Secretarial Studies and currently serves as an Instructor and Teacher, where she is committed to nurturing discipline, knowledge, and personal growth in those she teaches.

Gloria is deeply passionate about marriage and family life and has a special interest in marriage facilitation and faith formation. She believes that strong families and sound Christian teaching are essential for building a healthy society and a vibrant Church. Through her love for teaching, she seeks to encourage others to embrace Catholic values and live out their faith with conviction.

As a Moderator in the Catechetical Literacy Catholic Faith Forum, Gloria helps facilitate meaningful discussions, promote respectful dialogue, and support the forum’s mission of deepening members’ understanding of the Catholic faith. Guided by her philosophy, “To bring order to chaos,” she strives to foster harmony, clarity, and purposeful service in every area of her life.

Ngozi Odira

Leadership Team Member

Ngozi Odira is from Enugu State, Nigeria, and is happily married. She is a Registered Nurse, Dietitian, and Public Health professional with training and experience in health promotion, disease prevention, family health, and community development. She currently serves as a Clinical Dietitian and Health Educator, dedicating her career to improving individual and community well-being through evidence-based and person-centered care.

Ngozi is passionate about strengthening family life, promoting the sanctity of marriage, defending the dignity of every human life from conception to natural death, and advancing faith-based approaches to health and wellness. Her special interests include Natural Family Planning, family health education, pro-life advocacy, catechesis, and community empowerment through knowledge and service.

As a Leadership Team Member of the Catechetical Literacy Catholic Faith Forum, she contributes to faith formation and the promotion of authentic Catholic values within the community. She believes that strong families, rooted in faith and truth, are the foundation of a healthy society and a flourishing Church.

Rita Boboye

Moderator

Mrs. Rita Boboye is from Delta State, Nigeria, and is happily married. She is a fashion designer and teacher, combining creativity with a passion for educating and mentoring others. Through her professional and personal life, she is committed to making a positive impact by serving with dedication, humility, and excellence.

Rita has a deep love for music, which enriches her spiritual life and inspires her daily activities. As a Moderator in the Catechetical Literacy Catholic Faith Forum, she supports the mission of promoting authentic Catholic teaching, fostering meaningful discussions, and encouraging members to grow in faith and Christian discipleship.

Her philosophy of life is rooted in gratitude to God. She believes that life is a precious gift and that each day should be lived wisely and purposefully. She values genuine relationships, strives to treat everyone with love and respect, and entrusts every situation beyond her control to God’s providence.

Charles Chikodili Anukwonke

Moderator & Presenter

Charles Chikodili Anukwonke hails from Anambra State, Nigeria. He holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Environmental Management from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, and is currently a Scientific Researcher at RWTH University Aachen, Germany. He serves as a Lecturer at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, alongside his work as an Environmental Manager and published researcher in climate change and sustainability. His passion lies in environmental sustainability, climate change education, and community development, which he brings to his role as a member of the Leadership Board of the Catechetical Literacy Catholic Faith Forum. There he contributes to teaching the faith and engaging doctrinal and faith-based issues. He lives by the conviction that faith and knowledge together light the path to a just and sustainable world.
